Q: How long has GLPH been in business? A: We opened for business in 1986. Q: Is GLPH available to work on plumbing and heating in houses or offices being remodeled, including additions? A: Yes. This kind of work is a specialty with GLPH. Q: Do we have to buy our plumbing fixtures, like sinks, tubs and toilets, somewhere else before calling GLPH to install them and do the plumbing? A: No. We handle a complete line of fixtures made by leading manufacturers such as Kohler, Moen, Delta and Toto. Q: Can GLPH do in-floor and baseboard heating in the basement and forced air with A/C on the other floors of our house? A: Yes we can, and we do this quite often when working with builders. Q: Our sewer seems to be plugged, what should we do? A: If you have city sewer service, the first thing to do is call the city and check to see if there’s anything wrong with the main, or if work is being done on the main. If you have a septic system, you should have the tank pumped at least every two years. And if you haven’t had it pumped recently, that could be the problem. If the city main is clear and the septic tank has recently been pumped, and the trouble continues, call GLPH and we’ll find the problem and fix it. Q: For the money, what is the most comfortable home heating system? A: For most homes, it’s a combination of in-floor and forced air. Q: I’ve heard about plumbing and heating maintenance agreements. What are they and why should I have one? A: You wouldn’t go two years without regular maintenance for your vehicle, but many homeowners go two years and longer without checking their heating and plumbing systems. Think of a maintenance agreement as an insurance policy for preventative measures, maintenance and repairs, if needed, for both your plumbing and HVAC systems. A Great Lakes Protection Plus Service Agreement encourages you to identify potential problems before they happen, with annual check-ups and testing, by making sure your systems are working properly. If work is needed, maintenance agreements provide discounts on labor and materials. Most of all, our service agreements provide homeowners with peace of mind. Q: Do you sell and install air purifiers on old heating systems as well as new furnace and air conditioning systems? A: Yes we do. Air purifiers help eliminate allergens, odors and chemical impurities in the home. We monitor the air quality inside your home with “Air Advice”, a Lennox device that allows air testing over a phone line hook-up. The air quality test report helps us recommend the correct air purification equipment for your home. And then we come back after the equipment is installed to confirm that everything’s working properly. Q: I’ve seen your trucks all over northern Michigan. Do customers pay for all the travel time between your office and work sites if they’re, say, 50 miles away? A: We do work all over northern Michigan, but our primary service area is comprised of Emmet, Charlevoix, Cheboygan and Otsego Counties. And, no, customers do not pay for travel time. GLPH labor charges are only for actual time on the job. |
